Grosjean after his NASCAR test: 'The car is quite agile, it's surprising'

The advantage of defending the Haas colors F1 Team means that you can take gateways to other disciplines where the American team is involved.

Ahead of its home meeting near Austin, Gene Haas' team allowed its F1 drivers, Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen, to take the wheel of the No. 14 Ford Mustang of Stewart-Haas Racing.

The icing on the cake, the Grand Prix holders were able to benefit from the expert advice of Tony Stewart, three-time champion NASCAR and co-owner of the racing team entered in the American stock car championship.

« It was a great experience! enthused Grosjean after his baptism of fire. Afterwards, that's 2 kilos, so it's certain that instead of braking at 000 meters at the end of the straight, there it was at 90 meters. It’s definitely different.

I got in next to Tony and saw he was braking in that area. I was then alongside Kevin who tried to brake at 200 meters and shot straight so I told myself it was better to go back to 250 meters (Laughs).

The car is quite agile, which is surprising, even in fast sections. Again, it’s over 1 kilos and there’s no spoiler. So unsurprisingly, it’s going to move a little but that’s cool. The gearbox pleasantly surprised me. It’s a 800-H box. It goes really well. You don't even need to disengage. You just let go of the gas a little and you lower the gears while braking with your left foot. ».

Enough to give ideas for retraining to the French driver, whose association with Haas was extended for a season in F1?

« I've been wanting to try NASCAR for a while, added Grosjean before revealing a surprising detail about his contractual situation. Normally, I owe them one race per year in Cup, on the road. On oval, I told them it was nothing ».

When will Romain Grosjean’s official debut in competition across the Atlantic be?
