If Esteban Gutiérrez gave up following his clash with Fernando Alonso at the Australian Grand Prix, his teammate Romain Grosjean defied the predictions by taking sixth place ahead of Nico Hulkenberg.
Starting from 19th position, the former Lotus driver took advantage of the red flag following the Spaniard's crash to earn a pit stop. But the performance of its VF16 is more than promising for the future.
“It’s a historic moment, it’s like a victory”, commented Romain Grosjean at the microphone of Canal+. “We’ve had a bit of a horrible few weeks. We had the advantage of the red flag by having a free stop, but we adopted a good strategy. I think we could have finished ninth or tenth without this interruption. It’s a real achievement for this team to finish in the points ahead of Force India. We have crazy potential. »
