For several races, Haas F1 Team had made the choice to entrust a car “Melbourne version” at Romain Grosjean, when Kevin Magnussen could benefit from a VF19 equipped with the various developments made during the season by the American team.

A way to understand the recurring problems of a car capable of setting great times on a lap in qualifying, but of not keeping up with the tempo over long stints in the race, including delicate tire management.

But Belgium will whistle, in addition to the resumption in F1, the end of this duality observed at Haas. Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen will be able to count on the VF19 in its Hockenheim version to attack the Ardennes slide.

“We learned a lot and tried to improve the car by changing some components, argues Günther Steiner, Team Principal of Haas F1 Team. Both cars will have the same specifications, and we hope to learn more about it. »

The head of training in Kannapolis (North Carolina) also admits that the battle plan for the end of 2019 has not yet been defined.

“Attention has already focused, in part, on the 2020 car, comments Steiner. We need to see what we can find in the wind tunnel, with the small developments we are doing there for the 2019 car, and if we bring any upgrade kits. We do not know yet. »

Another point still unknown in the Haas F1 Team clan remains the driver duo for 2020. But as we tell you this in AUTO n°2231hebdo, available now in digital version and from tomorrow on newsstands, advances in the transfer market with Esteban Ocon might just speed things up.
