Grosjean: The strategy was “stupid”

Romain Grosjean will only start from 11th place on the starting grid for the Bahrain Grand Prix even though the Lotus driver seemed easily able to place himself in the top ten. If the Frenchman won points in the first three races of the season, the former GP2 Series champion's best result remains a sixth place obtained at Sepang. By failing just six hundredths behind Jenson Button, the French driver would have liked to make a second attempt. But the team preferred to take the gamble of saving tires for the race, which irritated the resident of the teamenstone. “It’s a stupid strategy, we wanted to play”, declared Romain Grosjean at the microphone of Canal+.

The Frenchman can nevertheless hope to have a good race after scoring his first podium last year on the Sakhir circuit.. “It’s obviously disappointing to miss Q3 but it’s part of the game”, the Lotus driver reacted later. “There were no problems with the car. We simply tried to qualify on a flying lap but unfortunately it didn't work. On the other hand, we found a lot of performance this weekend compared to the first three races and our pace in Q1 was very good. We qualified in a similar position last year (seventh) and we achieved a double podium (second place for Kimi Räikkönen). We still have one more card to play. »
