Grosjean: “My comments do not necessarily reflect my thoughts”

Romain Grosjean is experiencing a frustrating second half of the season. After scoring 22 points in the first four Grands Prix of the year, the former GP2 champion's last top ten dates back to Red Bull Ring (Austria) last July. Pilot's frustration Haas, often in difficulty on his VF16, is palpable during certain radio conversations.

“If I’m not looking for a good result in every race, why will I be here? I want to win. Sometimes my comments don't necessarily reflect my thoughts. There are no microphones on the football fields and I wouldn't want to hear their reactions when they don't like something, replied Romain Grosjean in an interview given on the F1 website. We are very exposed with the transmissions of our conversations. I'm frustrated and I say it. I want to do better and I know we can do it. Perhaps I want too much, I dream of glory too quickly, but I came back in a spirit of development. »

Romain Grosjean believes that it is the performances of the opponents which explain the withdrawal of Haas from the peloton of the F1.

“We are improving our pace in qualifying race after race against the top teams, explained the Frenchman. Our tires worked really well for some strange reason in the first two races. The others then progressed, you just have to see McLaren who passed in front of us. »

Haas F1 Team is in an even more difficult situation as it must prepare for the next car with the rule change as she makes her F1 debut.

“It’s indeed complicated to juggle two completely different cars, confirmed Romain Grosjean. Some teams have very important resources and it's easier for them. But our project is based on the long term. The objective is to do better in the second season and to progress further in the third. Although not everyone thinks so, we are following the plan perfectly. »

Haas F1 Team is now 19 points behind Toro Rosso. Esteban Gutiérrez is still aiming for his first top ten after failing to finish 11th five times this year.
