Grosjean does not understand his accident

Like many other pilots before him, Romain Grosjean became acquainted with the relentless reality of the Suzuka route (Japan). Victim of an accident in Q1, the Frenchman was unable to improve his 16th time.

It all happened in a matter of seconds. By winding turn 3, in the heart of the S of the first sector, the Haas went into slight understeer. In the following curve, the car went out wide, went over the grass and lost all grip, before hitting the wall of tires and coming to rest in the gravel trap. " I'm fine ", reassures Grosjean. “I attacked turn 3 a little faster than the previous lap, but nothing suicidal. I just lost control at that moment for some unknown reason. We need to analyze what happened.”, explains the Frenchman.

Romain Grosjean tried to correct a poorly started situation, without success. “I tried to keep the car on the track as much as possible, but I lost control a second time. The grass was wet, it threw me towards the barriers”, he says.

An accident all the more regrettable for the French pilot whom he considered “a top 10 achievable in Q1”. Günther Steiner, the team principal of the Haas team, did not know if any mechanical elements needed to be changed on Romain Grosjean's mount. “We will have to see with him the state of the damage, in order to analyze whether it is necessary to bring new parts in exchange for a penalty. Luck is not on our side, but that will change.”, he hopes.
