Grosjean will be able to use the engine that went up in smoke in Canada

The Frenchman was unable to take part in the qualifying session in Montreal, with a plume of smoke escaping from the back of his car he had barely left his pit in Q1.

As a precaution, its internal combustion engine (ICE), which had been introduced in Monaco the previous round, was then replaced by an old version, devoid of the developments Ferrari, for the race. Sent to Italian workshops for analysis, the engine which went up in smoke came back with a favorable health report.

« The booster will be in Romain's car on Friday, indicated Steiner in the Castellet paddock. Ferrari reported no internal damage, which is good news. It was an oil leak, which poured into a cylinder, hence the plume of smoke. But the engine was spared ».

This Canadian mishap was only the latest in a long series of misadventures for Grosjean in a season marked by regrettable incidents – exit under Safety Car regime in Azerbaijan, costly spin during the first round in Spain – and real bad luck – contact with a marmot during free practice in Montreal. Steiner says his pilot maintains morale in the face of adversity.

« Romain was performing well in Canada so in a good mood, he added. What do you want to do when you ride on a groundhog? You may be annoyed by it but it doesn't change anything in the end. And the engine problem has nothing to do with it. After what happened in Baku and Barcelona, he regained his confidence. He was very happy with the car and the developments made in Canada. All he needed was the result ».
