Grosjean: “Ready for a tough race” in Mexico

Romain Grosjean (Haas) does not expect to experience a wonderful weekend in Mexico City (Mexico). The Frenchman, 17th in the 2019 championship before the 18th meeting, has no illusions about a track that has never smiled on him since his return in 2016.

“I never found the circuit particularly exciting. It was never very sexy despite the long straight lines. They are followed by very slow turns. And then you have to take care of the tires, the brakes because of the altitude. »

Indeed, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is perched at 2 meters above sea level. “Even the central sector, with fast passages, doesn’t offer much grip. But maybe with the new tarmac it will be different.”, continues the Habs.

“We are ready to have a tough race. If it goes our way, great. But it would be quite a surprise, I don't expect anything exceptional. »

In an exercise where the car black and gold suffers, Romain Grosjean appreciates the change in attitude of his boss Günther Steiner. He understood, belatedly, the problems that the pilots had encountered since the spring.

“I think my comment was very clear from the first day in Barcelona (during winter testing. Editor’s note). I remain faithful to my initial opinion. It took us a long time to realize (the problems. Editor’s note).

Günther said it wasn't easy for a team to admit that the drivers were more "right" than the engineers. I think we have developed tools to reach the same conclusions more quickly. We lost three or four months in history.”, he reveals.
