Grosjean: “Everything has to work perfectly in Monaco”

Romain Grosjean prepares for the Monaco GP where he has mixed memories. If the pilot Haas won in GP2 in 2009, he had more difficulty distinguishing himself in F1 since he only finished in the points once, taking 8th place in 2014 when he was still defending the colors of Lotus F1 Team.

“It's quite difficult to run here, recognizes Romain Grosjean. Every urban circuit is complicated. We cannot afford any mistakes in Monaco or we end up directly in the wall. It is not easy to find the limits of the car. We always ride with margin, except in qualifying. The track is very narrow and you pass between the rails very quickly. It's a great challenge. »

Romain Grosjean is aware that qualifying is essential at the Monaco GP, with overtaking being particularly difficult.

“It's practically impossible to overtake, unless you take a big risk. in this case, you may find yourself spending several hours with the commissioners, underlines Romain Grosjean. Qualifications are essential. We can really be on the front line. Something important really has to happen to have a chance of moving up if we start from behind. »

Romain Grosjean could still suffer from his recurring brake problems for several months, preventing the Frenchman from being comfortable behind the wheel of the Haas VF-17.

“It’s a drivers’ circuit where you have to have confidence in your car and you can’t tell the difference if the car lacks grip, explains Romain Grosjean. The new F1 cars will go faster, but I don't think it will fundamentally change the race. It is a very difficult event to win. Everything has to work perfectly, from the first practice session to the finish of the race. »
