Romain Grosjean will struggle to end the season on a good note. The former GP2 champion who recently extended his contract with Lotus F1 Team received a 20 place penalty on the Yas Marina grid following a change of Power Unit and energy recovery system. The Frenchman should start from the pits in order to be able to refine the settings of his car for the race.
The French driver distinguished himself on the Abu Dhabi track by finishing just off the podium last year. If the performance of the Lotus E22 does not allow it to claim such a result this season, a top ten would already be a great objective with double the points.
The FIA clarified that the sanction could be increased depending on the number of places he will have to fall back. Romain Grosjean could face a time penalty, or even a drive-through, depending on his results in qualifying.
