F1 2022 Guide – Pierre Gasly: ​​“I’m not here to fill the Top 5”

Each new season generates new expectations. Are they more important this year because of the new technical regulations?

Honestly, for the moment, I haven't yet asked myself the question of what I could hope for in 2022. I have prepared myself more mentally for all possible scenarios. I am an optimistic person by nature and I hope that we will have a good surprise when we put the car on the track. At the same time, I am completely aware, having talked about it a lot with the team, that when you start with a blank slate, anything is possible. We can find ourselves in the Brawn of 2009 or the Haas of 2021. I prepared as best as possible, simulator, conversations with the team to follow the evolution of the program, but to know if it is a season where we will constantly fight in the Top 5, for podiums or outside of the points, because the car is unfortunately not well born, we don't know yet. To be honest, it's quite exciting.

It's been a few seasons now Faenza is no longer the “junior team” that it once was and enjoys more and more of its own autonomy. Can this new technical situation give it new impetus?

This is entirely possible, because the past has taught us that this type of change always offers opportunities. There are going to be surprises, teams who will have put their finger on the little thing that makes the difference.
