Obviously, Esteban Gutiérrez does not seem to be looking for a steering wheel on the home side Mercedes. Tensions are high between the pilot Haas et Toto wolff, the executive director of Mercedes Motorsport, since the Singapore Grand Prix where the Mexican took time to respect the blue flags by letting Nico Rosberg pass who was pursued by Daniel Ricciardo.
Questioned in the paddock of the Malaysian Grand Prix about this fact, Esteban Gutiérrez tried to defend himself.
“I will answer very simply. In the same way that Toto tries to have a minimum of blue flags and to put pressure on the FIA so that the stewards are stricter, I seek as a driver to lose as little time as possible in accordance with the rules without affect anyone. We ultimately do the same thing”, replied the Haas driver.
Esteban Gutiérrez also responded to About Toto Wolff which detailed the Mexican's driving as being relaxed when Nico Rosberg arrived in his mirrors.
“I know Toto said I was walking around. It is clear that he has never piloted a F1 because that was not the case, replied Esteban Gutiérrez. I don't see (this situation) as a danger (for my reputation). On the contrary, I think it's positive because it gives me more publicity and I should thank them. »
