Haas must work on tire management according to Grosjean

The purely accounting balance sheet of Haas F1 Team at the time of the summer break is already within the passage times compared to 2016, with one more unit in the ranking marked by the American structure, and with a better distribution of points brought back by Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen (18 and 11 each, while the former Lotus driver was the only scoring driver in 2016). Enough to glimpse a positive second half of the campaign for Gene Haas' team.

« We are stronger than last year, estimates Romain Grosjean on the F1 website. Our development is already focused on 2018, but as the changes will not be massive, we can be more aggressive with this car.

We can tune VF17 better and we are making the right choices strategically, so the chances are high enough that we can even score more points than last year. »

The Frenchman recognizes, however, that Haas F1 Team could have been much better placed at championship level, if it had been able to better manage one of the new technical parameters introduced with the change in regulations in 2017.

« In one word: tires. We do not yet fully understand them. Sometimes we manage to place ourselves in the optimal window, sometimes not. Sometimes things work out, and you don't know why, and vice versa. The window where they work well for us is still very narrow. »

The possibility Renault

Romain Grosjean was also questioned about a possible return to Renault Sport F1 Team, a structure he had frequented when he started in the discipline in 2009, called up during the season to replace Nelson Piquet Jr after the Singapore Gate affair. .

The Haas driver does not see himself returning to the French team until it is able to play the leading roles. « I did not speak with Renault. Returning to Renault one day would be wonderful but it should be at a time when we could truly be world champions together. This would be a great situation, but now it's a bit premature. »
