If Haas once again shone in qualifying for the Chinese GP, the American team suffered too much from the performance of its tires in the race and did not manage to achieve success.

Haas still suffered too much from its tires

Haas F1 Team had reason to look gloomy at the end of the Chinese GP played last weekend in Shanghai. While the VF19s of Kevin Magnussen et Romain Grosjean had once again reached Q3, the two drivers of the American team failed to finish in the points.

Haas F1 Team is the only team with Ferrari et Mercedes to have constantly placed its two cars in the Top 10 of the grid since the start of the season, but Gene Haas' structure has only registered 8 units at the end of the first three races of the season and is thus only at the 6th place in the Manufacturers' championship, 4 points behind Renault et Alfa Romeo.

“The car is incredible on one lap, but there is nothing left once the tires have lived two laps”, summarized Romain Grosjean who failed at the points gate one lap behind the winner Lewis Hamilton.

“The problem is the temperature window in which the tires operate, explained Team Principal Günther Steiner. It's a high-speed circuit with long straights and slow corners where we couldn't get them to heat up enough. »

Haas F1 Team is impatient to find more suitable tracks for its VF19s, even if the American structure may still have to be patient.

“Even when it was cold in the winter testing in Barcelona (Spain), we could load the tire and put a lot of energy into it. The heat was then preserved. It was fine in Australia because the heat was there, but it didn't work in Bahrain and China. It could be even worse in Baku (Azerbaijan, April 28). I'm already preparing myself for disappointment, although I hope we find a solution before then. We knew after Bahrain that the time frame would be too short to resolve this problem (before China)”, recognized Günther Steiner.
