Haas closed the door on Giovinazzi

After two Grands Prix at the start of the year with Sauber where he replaced Pascal Wehrlein, the starting place still seems far away for Antonio Giovinazzi. The 2016 GP2 Series vice-champion was able to continue his learning of F1 by playing seven practice sessions with Haas F1 Team, but the American team now wants to offer maximum track time to its regular drivers Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen.

“I don’t think it helped our pilots, told Haas F1 Team Team Principal Günther Steiner in Ekstra Bladet. We'll see what we do next year, but we haven't talked about it yet. »

Antonio Giovinazzi can still count on the support of the Team Ferrari who would not like to see an Italian at the start of the Grands Prix. The Prancing Horse has a technical partnership with the American team, notably powered by its Power Units.

“Ferrari asked (to run Antonio Giovinazzi in testing). If you don't ask, you don't get what you want, added Günther Steiner. They didn't put pressure on us. We quickly indicated that we already had our two pilots. It was quite direct. »

Antonio Giovinazzi should nevertheless be able to test at Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team next year with six sessions on the program.
