Haas will no longer make “the same mistakes as last year”

Haas F1 Team was only ahead Williams last year in the Manufacturers’ Championship. The reason for this poor performance comes partly from errors in the development of the VF19.

Team Principal Günther Steiner reiterates that the basis of the car was good, but that mistakes were made during the changes made to the car. Haas F1 Team no longer intends to repeat this mistake at the start of the 2020 season.

“We have a better understanding of our situation, but I can't compare us to others at this time, He explains. Some are very fast but the programs of each team are different. It seems that we have a better working base, but last year's was not bad. We always said last year that the car was quite good, but that we did not progress as we wanted in the development. We have learned in which direction we need to progress and we are happy with what we currently have. »

Like the other teams, Haas F1 Team must also prepare for the 2021 season where the technical regulations will mark a break in the current evolution of F1.

“We started working on 2021 last year by doing concept studies, says Günther Steiner. We now have more and more people working on 2021. Everyone is preparing a test car based on a car from the 2019 season equipped with suspensions designed for 18-inch tires. This will be tested this year and we are currently working on its design. »

Haas F1 Team has not confirmed its crew for next year, contracts Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen being for the moment extended from year to year.
