Haas doesn't want customer teams in F1

If Haas F1 Team uses certain elements developed by the Team Ferrari, the American team, intends to keep its research and development department.

Günther Steiner, Team Principal of Haas F1 Team, opposed Christian Horner's proposal, its counterpart at Red Bull Racing, who had proposed selling F1 cars to the most modest teams on the grid in order to limit costs during the coronavirus crisis.

“This plan is not really relevant because all the teams have already found ways to manage the situation, said Günther Steiner in an interview with Ziggo Sport. We do not need additional funds. What we need is for the big teams to work with lower budgets. In this way we will become more competitive. »

Günther Steiner does not wish to operate with the status of a client team and wishes to maintain an independent structure.

“We will become customer teams and the biggest teams could manipulate our performances because we would be playing with cars that are a year old. They would stay in front of us, hammered the director of Haas F1 Team. We still won't be able to reach the budgets of the biggest teams even if cost limits are introduced, but we would at least be a little closer. »

Despite the coronavirus crisis, cost controls and performance gaps within the F1 field have continued to spark debates.
