Haas: “We are an independent team”

The 2016 World Championship season F1 will see the arrival of a brand new formation under the American banner, le Haas F1 Team by Gene Haas. The boss of the team, already victorious on the front of the NASCAR with Stewart-Haas Racing, has measured ambitions for his debut in F1, with his newly formed duo of Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutiérrez.

“If we score a point, I will be happy. Romain has been able to score points in many races, so he knows how to do it. A car developed around a chassis built by the Italian specialist Dallas, and which will be powered by the V6 turbo / hybrid Ferrari. The close links between Maranello (with the recruitment of Gutiérrez, the Scuderia's third driver this season) and the Haas project have often led to the new team being considered a Junior Team.

“I don’t see us in the position of a junior team, says Haas. If we are there, we want to beat them. But, of course, I wouldn't mind finishing behind the Ferrari in every race! That wouldn't be bad. In this sport, a technical partnership is one thing and racing is another.

We don't position ourselves as a junior team and we don't want to be a junior team. A lot of the car is our design, so that's enough to say we're an independent team. »
