In this first half of the 2024 season Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) had accustomed us to slowing down between free practice on Friday and qualifying on Saturday. The seven-time world champion put an end to this idea this Saturday on the Barcelona circuit (Spain), by setting the 3rd best time in qualifying, the day after the best time in Free Practice 2.

The future pilot Ferrari in 2025 had never achieved such a performance in qualifying since the United States Grand Prix in Austin in the fall of 2023. “I am very happy to be back in the top 3, said Lewis Hamilton. It's been a tough year so far, and the factory employees have been working hard to get us back on track. It is only now that we are seeing the results of this work, which brings us closer to the guys at the front. »

The 39-year-old driver wanted to thank the engineers and mechanics at the Mercedes factory in Brackley (Great Britain) for improving the level of play of the W15 in Catalonia. “I didn't really expect to get involved in the fight for pole today. I'm grateful that's almost the case. We have made huge strides recently. All credit goes to every person in the Mercedes factory. Everyone is pushing in the same direction, whether in the design of the parts, or in the construction of the developments in order to take them to the track as soon as possible. Little by little, the car gets closer to the front. »

Lewis Hamilton outlines team tactics to aim for victory in Barcelona. “George (Russell) did a good job on this session (4th beat), so hopefully together we can put pressure on the two cars in front of us (The McLaren de Norris and Red Bull de Verstappen). »
