Hamilton beaten but winner in Canada

Victory seemed destined Ferrari at the Canadian GP, but this season is clearly turning to the advantage of Lewis Hamilton and its Mercedes. While he was leading the race after taking pole at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal, Sebastian Vettel was given a 5-second penalty and thus finished in second place behind Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). It is therefore a 5th victory for the Briton this season, the 7th in Canada, and the 78th of his career.

The German made a mistake on the 48th lap while trying to resist Lewis Hamilton and rejoined the track, cutting off the Briton's path. The sanction seems harsh, the Ferrari driver having tried to maintain control of his SF90 after going out onto the grass.

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) completes the podium. The Monegasque beat the second Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas several tens of seconds ahead. The Finn set the fastest lap of the race by putting on soft tires in the final laps.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) completed the Top 5. The Dutchman benefited from a great strategy by extending his first stint which allowed him to move up several positions. He finished in front of the Renault de Daniel Ricciardo et Nico Hulkenberg which finally offer a beautiful result to the Losange.

Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) failed in 8th place after having, unlike his teammate, suffered from his strategy by stopping quickly in the race. Lance stroll (Racing Point) entered the points in his national Grand Prix by taking 9th position ahead of Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) who snatched the last point from Carlos Sainz Jr. (McLaren) in the last laps.

Haas had a difficult race in Canada. Romain Grosjean ranks 14th behind Sergio Pérez (Racing Point) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo), while Kevin Magnussen (Haas) failed to rank 17th between the Williams by George Russell and Robert Kubica. The Dane had to be picked up by his director Günther Steiner on his radio, such was his frustration. Alexander albon (Toro Rosso) and Lando Norris (McLaren) have given up.

Lewis Hamilton will arrive at the French GP in two weeks with a 29-point lead over teammate Valtteri Bottas. Sebastian Vettel is 62 points behind the championship lead.
