Hamilton: “It was extremely difficult”

For the 90th time in his career, Lewis Hamilton climbed to the highest step of the podium while to his left the young Alexander albon was there for the very first time. An image to which the Englishman has accustomed us for many years but this victory was not easy.

« It was a bit nonsense, as if we had had three races in one day! It was incredibly difficult today. I struggled, but this circuit is phenomenal ».

The Englishman notably had to deal with many factors during the race (three standing starts, two red flags) including the threat Bottas. " Valtteri was right behind me, it wasn't easy. All these restarts, each time we had to find the energy to move forward », said a tired Lewis Hamilton after so much effort.

« During the restarts, I had to pay attention to my tires. Valtteri also came up from nowhere and he was really threatening. I had to manage my tire capital and Valtteri behind at the same time because the straight is so long here that I didn't want him to enter the DRS zone ».

Thanks to this 90th career success, Lewis Hamilton accentuates his advantage in the world championship. The six-time champion's tally stands at 190 points, 55 more than that of his first pursuer, Valtteri Bottas. Max Verstappen is relegated to 80 units.
