Hamilton: “It will be worse than a day of testing”

Lewis Hamilton is not the least impatient to return to competition. The pilot Mercedes who hopes to match the 7 titles of Michael Schumacher this year had to put its hopes on hold following the coronavirus crisis.

“The first days were difficult and then you learn to live without what you love. I miss driving”, recognized the 35-year-old Briton in a Mercedes podcast F1.

The six-time world champion is now preparing for the resumption of competition scheduled for early July in Europe with Grands Prix contested behind closed doors in a special atmosphere, where fears linked to the pandemic will remain palpable.

“It will look very emptyhe regretted. The messages I received from all over the world touched me because they miss sport and it shows how much it matters in people's lives. It brings us all together, it’s exciting and captivating. I don't know how it will look on TV, but it will be better than nothing. »

“For us, it will probably be worse than a day of testing, in the sense that a few people still come to follow the sessions. There, we will have no one in the stands and we will only see empty seats all around the circuit, he added. But the race remains the race. I don't think any of us were able to realize the true potential of our car. I can't wait to come back because I really miss it a lot. »

Lewis Hamilton has kept a low profile during the season suspension, not participating in Esports races unlike many of his competitors.
