Hamilton: “This Mercedes was harder to drive”

Lewis Hamilton was rewarded at the FIA Gala in Paris for his incredible season where the driver Mercedes won a 6th world title with authority, approaching the ultimate records of Michael Schumacher.

The star-studded team, however, experienced a brief slump after the summer break when the Team Ferrari has managed to significantly evolve the SF90. This did not prevent the Briton from subsequently finding the road to success.

“The car was not easy to drive when we started the season, declared the six-time world champion. It wasn't very promising during testing. We couldn't get to the right window and it wasn't until the last day that it started working. We were able to obtain superb results from the first race (with a double of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton). »

The Mercedes W10 was notably further behind than the W09 during qualifying while the Silver Arrows were used to monopolizing the front rows. The Briton’s “Silver Arrow” nevertheless showed a solid pace once the lights went out.

“Our season was as strong as the previous one, he said. Our qualifying wasn't as good, but I still often managed to take the front row or find myself in the top three and separate the Ferraris who suddenly had 30hp more than everyone else. Our qualifications remained good, but this Mercedes was harder to drive. It was a great year, certainly the best of my career. »

Next year, Lewis Hamilton could become the only one to reach the record of seven coronations held by Michael Schumacher. The Briton only has 7 victories left to match the German's 91 victories.
