Hamilton continues at the Hungarian GP

Lewis Hamilton further increased his lead in the Championship by winning his second consecutive victory at the Hungarian GP held at the Hungaroring in Budapest. The four-time world champion retained his pole advantage before quickly creating a good lead over his opponents. The Briton, who celebrated his 67th career victory and his 5th of the season, was notably able to count on his teammate Valtteri Bottas which complicated the task of Ferrari.

The Finn was hopeful of offering a double to Mercedes after having kept the advantage in the stoppage game despite the different strategy of Sebastian Vettel. The Nordic driver resisted the German so much that he made contact in turn 2. Both cars were able to reach the finish even if the W09 suffered damage to its front wing. Bottas finally failed in 5th position behind Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) and Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) after another contact in the first corner when the Australian attempted an overtake after making a strong comeback from the back of the grid.

Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) took advantage of his 6th position on the grid to finish in the same place and sign his third finish in the points. The Frenchman was ahead Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Fernando Alonso (McLaren), Carlos Sainz Jr. (Renault) and Romain Grosjean (Haas).

Force India concludes a very difficult week out of the points with Esteban Ocon 13th in front of his teammate Sergio Pérez, the VJM11 ranking behind Brendon Hartley (Toro Rosso) and Nico Hulkenberg (Renault). Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) and the Williams by Sergey Sirotkin and Lance stroll completed the ranking.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) retired following an engine problem. Stoffel Vandoorne (Mclaren) dismounted due to a gearbox problem. Charles Leclerc (Sauber) suffered a mechanical problem on the first lap.

Lewis Hamilton will go on vacation relaxed as he now has a 24-point lead over Sebastian Vettel.
