Hamilton continues during EL2 in Sakhir

He appeared in the last quarter of an hour to settle the competition in a session interrupted by two red flags. Already author of the best time of the first runs at the beginning of the afternoon, Lewis Hamilton confirmed in the evening with the time reference for Free Practice 2 of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

After spending most of the start of the session testing the 2021 Pirelli prototypes, the new seven-time world champion clocked a time of 1'28''971 on Soft tires and preceded the Red Bull de Max Verstappen by a little more than 3/10th.

The Dutchman, however, was riding on Medium tires during his best flying lap. Valtteri Bottas completes the Top 3, 18 thousandths behind the Red Bull driver.

Sergio Pérez confirms his good warm-up with the 4th time of the first night session of the Bahraini weekend. The Racing Point driver is just ahead of Renault de Daniel Ricciardo and l'Alpha Tauri de Pierre Gasly, also very lively during this opening day.

Lando Norris is the best representative McLaren with the 7th beat. The Briton takes in his wake Lance stroll (Racing Point), Daniil Kvyat (AlphaTauri) and Alexander albon (Redbull).

The Thai's evening was cut short by a violent exit from the track at the last corner, synonymous with a red flag. Albon, who is currently trying to retain his seat at Milton Keynes in 2021, bit too wide before the rear of his RB16 gave way and he slammed into the outside wall. More fear than harm for the Londoner, fortunately, even if such an incident is necessarily bad.

Barely had the session restarted when a new red flag was waved, this time because of a stray dog seen on the track. The action was able to resume without interruption for the last 25 minutes.

Already behind at the start of the afternoon, the Ferrari are again outside the Top 10: Sebastian Vettel is 12th, just behind Esteban Ocon (Renault), while Charles Leclerc ranks 14th. His future teammate Carlos Sainz hoists his McLaren between the two SF1000s.

At the bottom of the ranking, we find Romain Grosjean in 19th position, between Williams, behind the wheel of a Haas described as “ undriveable » by the French pilot.
