Hamilton still far from claiming victory in Singapore

Lewis Hamilton set the best on Friday at the Singapore Grand Prix with a time of 1'47"490. But its lead over the competition is weak since Fernando Alonso is only a tenth behind the 2008 world champion. Mercedes should be more efficient on this urban circuit, especially since Nico Rosberg was unable to try his luck following the red flag following the exit of Pastor Maldonado.

“I wasn’t comfortable (at the end of my long stint) but we’re working on it”, comments the Briton. “We made changes between the two sessions. I don't know if it's the track that's the problem, but I was particularly having trouble finding the right balance. It's a little more important than usual to have good practice here because the circuit is demanding with the tires and the settings. You quickly lose confidence if you don't have enough driving and I remain satisfied to have had a problem-free day. »

Lewis Hamilton's priority is, however, to perform well on a flying lap, with qualifying always being essential on a street circuit like that of Singapore. “It’s really essential. The right side of the track always offers better starts and it's impossible to overtake.", adds the Briton. “I remain confident for this weekend but Nico (Rosberg) is also very fast, as are the Red Bull. We still do not know their true potential, especially since Ferrari also seemed to be performing well, but we need to focus on ourselves. »
