Hamilton hopes to have preserved his engine

The fantastic ride of Lewis Hamilton from the Monaco Grand Prix to regain the lead of the World Championship against his teammate Nico Rosberg could face a thorny problem after the summer break.

Since the start of the season, the Briton has been forced, due to various damages to his Power Units Mercedes, to use five MGU-H (recovery of energy released by exhaust gases) as well as five turbos.

Enough to place the triple world champion under the threat of penalties, which will drop when using a sixth element on its Power Unit. A situation that Lewis Hamilton took philosophically after the German Grand Prix, believing that he had done what was necessary with a view to the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa at the end of the month, which will mark the resumption of the championship.

“In Germany in the race, I was able to preserve my engine, and that's the reason why the Red Bull could have come back to me at some point, commented Hamilton. I only needed a gap of six seconds.

When the gap fell from 11 to 7″ with Daniel Ricciardo et Max Verstappen, I again stressed the engine a little more. I never felt threatened, and I hope I managed to save enough to be able to use it in Spa. »

In the event of using a sixth element for the first time in Belgium, the Briton would automatically receive a ten-place penalty on the Belgian starting grid.
