Hamilton and the eternal Ferrari rumor

Word spread from conversation to conversation in Abu Dhabi last weekend. According to the Italian press, John Elkann, president of Ferrari, would have met Lewis Hamilton twice in a first attempt at seduction. Questioned on the subject, the six-time world champion did not deny the facts. “ What happens behind closed doors is intended to stay behind closed doors », declared the Briton soberly after his 11th victory of the season.

Hamilton will be 35 in 2020 and his next contract F1 is likely to be the last. If his previous renewals at Mercedes were simple formalities, the winner of Abu Dhabi often linked the continuation of his adventure in gray to the presence of his boss Toto wolff.

However, the future of the Austrian manager is also uncertain. “ I'm waiting to see what he's going to do, added Hamilton, speaking of the main Mercedes team. I love my current situation so I’m in no rush to change scenery. Afterwards, it is always wise to take the time to think ».

Two days earlier, Mattia Binotto had not closed the door to an attempt to recruit the English driver by the Scuderia. For his part, Wolff appeared very calm on the subject and said he saw no problem with Hamilton having contact with Ferrari. The boss of the silver house even estimates that there is a 25% chance that his foal will look elsewhere after 2020.

However, we wonder if this story is not a clever way both for Hamilton to raise the stakes before quietly returning to Mercedes, and for Binotto to put pressure on his riders, not really free from all reproaches this year .

Given Maranello's mistakes for years, why would Hamilton want to put himself in so much danger? The sacred glory associated with the Ferrari myth you will tell us. Fernando Alonso et Sebastian Vettel have seen the cost of giving in to temptation. Regardless, the 2021 transfer season is already open!
