Hamilton and Mercedes dominate French GP qualifying

Lewis Hamilton scored a new pole at the French GP by preceding his teammate Valtteri Bottas. Sebastian Vettel is only 7th on the grid.

Hamilton and Mercedes dominate French GP qualifying

Mercedes signed a new double in qualifying with the pole of Lewis Hamilton at the French GP with 2 tenths ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas, setting the lap record in 1’28”319. This is “only” his 3rd pole of the season but the 86th of his career while his Finnish rival failed to improve his personal time in his second attempt. The star-studded team obtains the record for first row won in qualifying with 63 successes.

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) follows in 3rd place while his teammate Sebastian Vettel is only 7th behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull) Et les McLaren de Lando Norris et Carlos Sainz Jr. The four-time world champion encountered mechanical problems during his first attempt and was only able to qualify on a flying lap.

Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) follows in 8th position ahead Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo).

Alexander albon (Toro Rosso) narrowly missed Q3 by failing 4 hundredths behind Pierre Gasly. Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo) finished 12th ahead of Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Sergio Pérez (Racing Point) and Kevin Magnussen (Haas).

Romain Grosjean (Haas) was eliminated in Q1. The French driver missed his last attempt by losing the rear of his VF19 in a chicane. The former GP2 champion failed in 17th place between Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) and Lance stroll (RacingPoint). THE Williams of George Russell and Robert Kubica complete the ranking of those eliminated. The Russian will start from last place with his penalty.
