Hamilton and Vettel at the forefront in EL1 at Spielberg

In the furnace of Styria, with almost 50°C on the track, Lewis Hamilton signs the first reference of the Austrian weekend by setting a time of 1'04''838. The five-time world champion precedes the Ferrari de Sebastian Vettel of 144 thousandths, his teammate Mercedes Valtteri Bottas emerging 17 thousandths further.

Charles Leclerc ranks 4th, three tenths behind for the Scuderia. Note, however, that the SF90s were running on Medium tires while the Flèches d'Argent were running on Soft tires when they achieved their best mark.

For the home appointment of Red Bull, Max Verstappen et Pierre Gasly sign the 5th and 6th times of the opening session. The RB15s, on red tires, are relegated to around half a second of Hamilton's time.

Behind this Top 6 with a very unoriginal look, we find the McLaren de Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard already knows that he will have to start from the back of the grid since he received the B evolution of the engine Renault. Within the Losange factory stable, Daniel Ricciardo has enjoyed it since the French Grand Prix.

The Australian finished 8th in these Free Practice 1, while his teammate Nico Hulkenberg had to settle for 14th fastest time after damaging his front wing and part of the flat bottom of his RS19 by veering wide and hitting the yellow curbs located off the line in the last double straight of the route.

The Top 10 is completed by the Haas de Kevin Magnussen and the second McLaren of Lando Norris, who was riding on Hard tires when he set his best time. Romain Grosjean finished at the door of the first half of the ranking with the 11th mark.

In the second part of the timesheet, we also find the Toro Rosso, the Racing Point, the Alfa Romeo, And Williams.
