Hamilton maintains the advantage in EL3

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) improved his benchmark from the day before by half a second by setting a time of 1'34''434 on the Sepang circuit during the final practice session for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The three-time world champion was ahead by more than four tenths Max Verstappen (Red Bull), while Nico Rosberg followed more than six tenths behind.

The Ferrari by Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel completed the top five, seven tenths behind the Briton, being the last drivers less than a second behind the reference time.

Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) finished in sixth place more than half a second behind his teammate. The Australian preceded Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) and Valtteri Bottas (Williams). Carlos Sainz Jr. (Toro Rosso) and Felipe Massa (Williams) completed the top ten ahead of Jenson Button (McLaren).

Esteban Gutierrez (Haas) took 13th place, ahead of his teammate by a tenth Romain Grosjean who finished 15th behind Jolyon Palmer (Renault). The Frenchman finished in front Kevin Magnussen (Renault), Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) and the Saubers of Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr. Esteban Ocon (Manor) took 20th place ahead of his teammate Pascal Wehrlein, victim of technical problems like Fernando Alonso (McLaren) which completes the list.
