Hamilton impressed by Alonso's Indy 500 challenge

Lewis Hamilton supported the choice of Fernando Alonso who will miss the Monaco Grand Prix on May 28 to compete in the 101st edition of the Indianapolis 500 with McLaren and Honda. If the pilot Mercedes does not plan to miss an event, while he is fighting for a 4th world title in F1, he is closely interested in other motorsport disciplines.

“It’s already fantastic that a driver can do that. We should be able to do more than a Championship, said Lewis Hamilton. Drivers could compete in many races in the past and this period was quite pleasant. I wouldn't want to miss a race in F1 because you have to be present at every start, but I would like to drive in Moto GP or compete in a race Nascar like the Daytona 500.”

Hamilton impressed by Alonso challenge

Lewis Hamilton will follow Fernando Alonso's progress at the Indy 500 with interest, the Asturian having recognized that his preparation time was particularly short for the event that awaited him.

“It’s a completely different type of racing. The settings, the degree of inclination of the track, the degradation of the tires. That's a lot to learn in a short time. But Fernando is one of the best drivers in the world. He will be the strongest in Indianapolis, but he will not be the most experienced and it will be interesting to see how he does,” added Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton wants to see Button again

While McLaren-Honda has not yet confirmed Fernando Alonso's replacement at the Monaco GP, the Briton hopes to see his former teammate Jenson Button back in action with whom he defended the McLaren colors between 2010 and 2012.

“I hope Jenson comes back. It would be great for the discipline, added Lewis Hamilton. I think he is still one of the best drivers. He has great abilities and is very experienced. »
