Hamilton: “I took it upon myself and continued to work”

Came very close to the correctional court in the first round after his incident with Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finally triumphed on this circuit where he feels at home.

Came back like a cannonball Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) at the end of the race, the seven-time world champion was uncompromising when it came time to showcase his talent on the track. Like a fighter plane, the Briton left his Monegasque counterpart behind to seek an 8th success at Silverstone.

« Winning in front of this crowd is a dream for me, he enjoyed to the cheers of the thousands of spectators who came to support him. I also couldn't have done it without Valtteri's excellent team spirit (Bottas who let him pass in the race) and all the efforts of the team members ».

Without a victory since the Spanish Grand Prix (May 9), Lewis Hamilton took his trouble patiently and reacted in the best possible way: a victory and zero points for his main rival and championship leader, Max Verstappen.

« I gave the maximum of myself this week. I went to the factory where I worked. The factory staff also did everything to make up for the car's lack of performance on the track. I am very proud of all of us. We continued to work even though we were inferior (to Red Bull. Editor’s note).”

Concerning the collision with Max Verstappen at the start of the race, Lewis Hamilton was rather evasive even if he said he agreed with the race management's decision. “ I always try to be measured in my approach to things, especially when I'm fighting with Max (Steps) because we know he is very aggressive, he says first before continuing. I was next to him and he didn't give me any space.

Regardless, I agree with the penalty. I took it upon myself and continued to work. I said to myself, “I’m not going to let anything get in my way.” ". The rest we know. The pilot Mercedes served his 10-second penalty and made a fantastic comeback to score his 4th success of the season. The championship is relaunched.
