Hamilton: “I hope Sirotkin learns his lesson”

Lewis Hamilton won the 82nd pole of his career, his 10th of the season and his 3rd at the Interlagos circuit, winning qualifying for the Brazilian GP with less than a tenth ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), but the day could have ended much worse for the reigning world champion who almost got hit by Sergey Sirotkin (Williams) in Q2 after the Briton maneuvered to the left.

The pilot Mercedes says he is in the right and blames the Russian while the paddock questions the lack of investigation by the stewards.

“Everyone was preparing their flying lap, Sergey as well as everyone who was in front of me on the track, explained the 33-year-old Briton. Valtteri (Bottas) was positioned in front of me, he slowed down to have a clear runway and I did the same. I was making sure I had enough space when I saw someone approaching quickly. Then I was like, “Oh my God! Is this someone who's been there for a while? ". So I moved to the left and he went in the same direction. »

Things could have ended there, but the Mercedes driver insisted Sergey Sirotkin was responsible.

“It was a disrespectful move. I was trying to stay out of his path, then he rounded the corner and braked. It was quite strange but above all completely useless because I no longer had enough space because of him. Our times were therefore not good. I hope he learns his lesson.", launched the five-time world champion.

Sebastian Vettel did not have the same success since the Ferrari driver could receive a penalty on the grid.
