Hamilton: “I made too many mistakes”

In the space of a few hours, Lewis Hamilton went from the status of arch-favorite in Hungary, to that of “mere” sixth in the Grand Prix contested at the Hungaroring. The Briton, who had crushed the weekend until this Sunday, experienced a complicated test from the start.

« This is one of the worst races of my career, and for the moment, I have no explanation,
confessed the World Champion. All I can do is apologize to the team. My departure was not ideal and the Ferrari came into action very quickly and I was attacked from both sides. »

Hamilton also lost big in his first-lap off-road excursion at the chicane, after locking his wheels under braking behind Nico Rosberg, as well as in his contact with the Red Bull de Daniel Ricciardo. “It wasn’t deliberate, but it was my fault, indicated the pilot of the Mercedes n ° 44. He went to the outside, and I lost grip and understeered, then I hit him. This meant a drive-through that set me back again after all the work done to get back. I made too many mistakes today. »

However, the Mercedes driver greatly limited the damage in the standings, finishing ahead of Nico Rosberg, who was also caught in a collision with Ricciardo. With 202 points, the former pilot McLaren is 21 points ahead of its rival before the summer break and the Spa meeting in Belgium at the end of August.
