Hamilton: F2 doesn't have to be more impressive than F1

Lewis Hamilton took advantage of the British Racing Drivers' Club awards ceremony to discuss the current concerns encountered by the F1 in the presence of Chase Carey, director of the Formula One Group at Liberty Media.

While the pilot Mercedes takes advantage of the domination of his team to achieve good results, he nevertheless campaigns for a more lively discipline with in particular overtaking which would be simpler to carry out.

“From a driver's point of view, we always want to be able to fight close to each other like in karts., commented Lewis Hamilton. Kart racing remains the best form of motor racing because the gaps are very close. This season's cars were the best ever. I'm sure Ross (Brawn, Motor Sports director), Chase and the teams will deliver even more aggressive cars. »

Lewis Hamilton mentioned several avenues to develop the discipline which will take a new turn by 2021 with the future regulations.

“I hope they make the cars noisier, added the four-time world champion. We can have even bigger wheels. Jackie (Stewart) had some in her time. We could perhaps also reduce the aero support a little so that we can fight closer together. I don't see why a GP2 or F2 or whatever you want to call it should be louder, more engaging, and with closer fights. »
