Hamilton: Victory in 2013 would already be great

Lewis Hamilton recently said goodbye to McLaren to join the stable Mercedes with whom he will face a new challenge. His choice sparked numerous debates since Woking assured him the possibility of fighting at the front while the Stuttgart manufacturer is struggling to establish itself among the top teams. If Nico Rosberg's victory at the Chinese Grand Prix created hope within Ross Brawn's team, the rest was less glorious with a disappointing end to the season and worrying for the German team's prospects in 2013. The decision of the 2008 world champion has been criticized behind the scenes but the person concerned maintains his confidence in the German team which could bounce back with the upcoming arrival of the new 6l turbo V1.6 engines in 2014.

“It seems that Mercedes was 1” behind in Brazil and we therefore have a very long hill to climb”, commented on the last winner of the US Grand Prix on Sky Sports. “But I don't think it's impossible, the staff are fantastic and have huge potential, which is why I made this decision. I don't see things in the short term. Already, I will not take the wheel of the car before February and I won't be able to have a sufficient impact for at least six months. I think 2014 will be the biggest or most competitive year, but I don't see why we can't start by aiming for a few podiums. If we manage to grab a few wins next year, we can really have a smile on our faces. »
