Hamilton: “The two best laps of the weekend”

Beaten yesterday by his teammate Nico Rosberg in free practice, Lewis Hamilton clearly tipped the scales in its favor this Saturday on the Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium. Already best time in free practice 3 this morning, the World Champion uncontestedly dominated the qualifications.

“I am really happy today with the performance of the car, Hamilton said at a press conference. It’s a circuit where if you find the right balance, it’s definitely one of the most enjoyable to drive on. Of course, I am aware that pole position is a good thing, but it's a long race and it will be very long until turn 5.

My goal today was to get pole position, and in qualifying Nico was very close and my last two laps were the two best laps of the whole weekend, so I'm very, very happy with that. »

It was particularly in the second sector that Hamilton made the difference, a part of the circuit which was not always successful for him. “In the past it was more of a weak point. I know the trajectories, but I could never manage to put all the turns end to end. In my two rounds, this has been a very good place. »

Asked about the question of new departure procedures, the pilot Mercedes doesn't seem worried about this. “The team did several analyses, and I trained at the factory in the simulator, and all weekend we worked on this, so we are as well prepared as possible."
