Hamilton: Spectators “want to thrill”

Si Lewis Hamilton is not a member of the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers Association), the driver Mercedes was keen to provide its support when the latter published an open letter to the attention of the shareholders of the F1. The Briton regrets the current lack of spectacle and is campaigning for regulations allowing more overtaking which will offer a better “show” to spectators.

“What they want is to see me sweating in the cockpit and doing fantastic overtaking maneuvers.”, Lewis Hamilton told AUTOhebdo. “People who watch races have no idea of all the control buttons that abound on our steering wheel… Better yet, they don’t care. What they want is a fight, wheel locks, smoking tires when braking... They want to thrill. »

“One of my best races was, right here in Sakhir, in 2014, except that to have this type of spectacle, you need a difference of a second and a half in terms of tires. This is the only reason why Nico (Rosberg) was able to come so close. This example clearly shows that there is something fundamentally wrong…”, added the three-time world champion.
