Hamilton unhappy about saving fuel

McLaren will regret his weekend at Silverstone. With the abandonment of Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton fails at the foot of the podium after saving fuel at the end of the race. This calculation error on the part of the British team can be explained by the lack of testing due to the rain that occurred in recent days at Silverstone. The 2008 World Champion could still hope for a place in the top three, but he was narrowly ahead of Felipe Massa (Ferrari), which crosses the finish line at 0??024 behind the Briton.

“It couldn’t be tighter”, comments Lewis Hamilton. “The team did a fantastic job. Unfortunately, I had to save fuel towards the last 21 laps of the race. Lots of fuel. I had to let (Mark) Webber pass, then they told me on the last lap: “You can attack. » and I replied “Thank you”, after letting Massa pass. But there was no way I was going to let this place slip away from me. »

If the fight for fourth place offered a splendid battle, Lewis Hamilton remains disappointed not to have been able to attack. “You always try to be clean on the track”, adds the McLaren driver. “I imagine that the Ferrari drivers and Red Bull did not have to save fuel. This result is therefore not positive for us. »
