Hamilton focuses on strategy

Lewis Hamilton was in difficulty during qualifying for the Hungarian GP as the driver Mercedes took only 4th position, failing more than 4 tenths from the pole achieved by Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari). The three-time world champion even finished behind his teammate Valtteri Bottas after suffering from the behavior of his W08 on the Hungaroring.

“It hasn’t been one of the easiest weekends for us so far, recognizes Lewis Hamilton. The car didn't seem great in practice, but the changes made for qualifying improved the situation. We knew Ferrari would be fast given their pace this morning. As a result, we did pretty well by locking the second row of the grid. »

Lewis Hamilton confirms that it was an error in Q3 which disrupted his session and influenced his result.

“My times were pretty good in qualifying, but I made a mistake in turn 4 on my first attempt in Q3. It was therefore necessary to have a basic time to be sure of having a time. »

Lewis Hamilton hopes Mercedes will be able to implement a good strategy to allow him to gain positions, with the Briton keeping in mind that overtaking is difficult at the Hungaroring.

“Tyres or strategy may have a more important role, hopes Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari seems to have the upper hand this weekend and this race is usually a hotly contested procession on a circuit where it is difficult to follow each other. There are therefore not many opportunities to overtake in F1, but I will do my best. »

Lewis Hamilton won last year at the Hungarian GP after starting from second place behind his former teammate Nico Rosberg.
