Hamilton didn't expect to come back so quickly

Distanced by 43 points before the Monaco Grand Prix against the leader of the general classification Nico Rosberg, the reigning world champion made up almost all of his deficit in the space of two races by winning in quick succession in the Principality and in Montreal, after getting rid of the threat Sebastian Vettel.

A return to the forefront which surprised the Briton in a way. “After the first five races, I could never have predicted that I would be back in the title fight so soon, confesses Hamilton. But we're starting to have more accomplished weekends as a team and we're showing real strength, even getting results when things aren't perfect. »

The pilot of the Mercedes W07 Hybrid n°44 now wants to capitalize on its good Canadian weekend on a new track for the entire peloton, this Sunday in Baku for the European Grand Prix organized in the streets of the capital of Azerbaijan.

“Last weekend was really positive for me. I felt strong from Friday, with pole on Saturday and almost perfect in the car during the race. The balance was great and I had speed every time I needed it, which is all you want as a driver.

It's a big confidence boost for everyone. Of course, there is still a very long way to go and work to do. For my part, there was never any doubt in my mind about my abilities with this car and I showed once again that I am always focused. »
