Hamilton did not expect such a scenario

The spin of Fernando Alonso at the very end of Q3 partly decided the outcome of the qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Then best time in Q3, the Briton could still improve his time, but the Spanish driver's error forced the driver to Mercedes to cut his effort.

A setback which, however, did not bother his teammate Nico Rosberg, author of the last lap enough to take pole position in Budapest. The world champion conceded his “defeat”.

« I never expected to take this turn and see Fernando in front of me! I was four tenths faster up to that point and I felt really happy with the balance of the car. Pole was clearly within reach. But it’s the race and I will do my best from second place. »

The driver of the No. 07 W44 Hybrid intends to make up for it tomorrow at the start, knowing full well that overtaking on the Hungarian turnstile remains a delicate exercise. “A good start would be helpful. It's time to get one!

In testing, I think I found the right procedure, so I really hope for a good start tomorrow. It’s a long race so there are possibilities here and there and that could make all the difference. My running pace this morning (in free practice 3, Editor’s note) was pretty good, so let's hope it's going to be a good race. »
