Hamilton will start from the back of the grid

Lewis Hamilton being condemned from the back of the grid at the Belgian Grand Prix, Mercedes take advantage of this to use as many Power Unit elements as possible in order to be able to use them without penalty in the second part of the season.

After reaching the limit of five Power Unit elements at the summer break, Mercedes chose Spa-Francorchamps to refurbish the W07 Hybrid engine. After using a sixth MGU-H (hybrid energy) and a sixth turbo during the first practice session, the three-time world champion left with a seventh MGU-H and a seventh turbo this afternoon as well as a fifth engine and a fifth MGU-K (braking energy recovery).

Mercedes F1 has confirmed that Lewis Hamilton has an engine again for the third practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix. The star manufacturer has installed a sixth engine (ICE), a sixth MGU-K, an eighth MGU-H and an eighth turbo on the W07 Hybrid of the three-time world champion.

The Championship leader will receive an additional 25 place penalty, which means he will start from last position on the grid for the Belgian Grand Prix.

The Briton will not be the only one penalized on the Spa-Francorchamps grid since Fernando Alonso et Marcus Ericsson were also penalized.
