First twist this Sunday as part of the Austrian Grand Prix, with the penalty pronounced less than one hour before departure on the Red Bull Ring, against Lewis Hamilton.
The pilot Mercedes, classified in second position yesterday at the end of the qualifying session, was sanctioned with three places on the grid for not having slowed down sufficiently yesterday during Q3, after the off-track excursion of Valtteri Bottas.
Hamilton was summoned yesterday after the session for this violation of the regulations (in addition to exceeding the track limits at turn no. 10), but the stewards initially indicated that the almost simultaneous presence of a yellow flag and an electronic display showing a green light could have disturbed the British pilot.
Fact, no penalty had been imposed on the resident of the German team. This before Red Bull Racing does not formally contest this Sunday the decision, offering a new review of the decision.
New video elements, including 360° shots provided by Red Bull Racing, allowed the FIA to show that an electronic display did indeed display a yellow light at turn 5, another display showing a green light , however further down the track.
Valtteri Bottas will therefore start on pole in front Max Verstappen (Red Bull), followed by Lando Norris (McLaren) and Alex Albon (Red Bull Racing). Hamilton will start 5th ahead of Sergio Pérez (Racing Point), at the start which will be given at 15:10 p.m., the race can be followed live on our website via our live-text.
