Hamilton penalized on the Austrian GP grid

Lewis Hamilton will receive a penalty of 5 places on the grid of the Austrian GP following a gearbox change made after Baku (Azerbaijan). Mercedes had to make this replacement without having reached the limit of six races in a row.

“This replacement does not comply with Article 23.5a of the sporting regulations for the 2017 season of F1 and it was forwarded to the commissioners. The team informed the technical department of this gearbox change on Tuesday July 4,” the FIA said. The gearbox was therefore changed before the first tests held on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

Lewis Hamilton was the fastest during the first two practice sessions of the Austrian GP by signing the lap record at the Red Bull Ring this afternoon.
