Hamilton: Harder in the heat

After leading during the first two free practice sessions, Lewis Hamilton remained at the forefront even if Saturday was dominated by Sebastian Vettel. The pilot Red Bull evolved in another sphere yesterday while the 2008 world champion struggled like the rest of the paddock to qualify for Q3. The Briton is satisfied to be on the front row at the end of this particularly competitive qualifying session. “I was very happy with my time, I used all the potential of the car », assures the pilot McLaren. “I struggled in Q1 and Q2 and wasn't entirely confident with my pace, but I was still able to show good speed in Q3. Things were more complicated if we compare this Saturday to the first tests. I had difficulty using the tires well, the heat complicated things. »

If Lewis Hamilton manages to take advantage of Sebastian Vettel, he would become the seventh winner in seven races and improve this year's record. In order to achieve this, the McLaren driver intends to preserve his tires and will perhaps rely on a one-stop strategy even if he will start on super soft tires like the rest of the top ten except his teammate Jenson Button tenth on the grid. “I am very happy with my performance and to be on the front line. I can run a very good race starting from this position. My pace on the long relays on Friday was particularly good and I will be looking to do the same for the race. That being said, I will do everything to preserve as much gum as possible. Finally, the mechanics worked very hard to improve our stops. »
