Hamilton unstoppable poleman in his backyard at Silverstone

Brilliant, outrageous, irritating. We no longer really know how to describe the implacable domination (yet another possible adjective) of Mercedes

Add to that a Lewis Hamilton at the top of his game and you get another performance that is devastating to the competition. The six-time world champion, who had nevertheless suffered a spin in Q2, scored a 91st career pole, the 7th in his English garden of Silverstone with a record time of 1'24"303, or 0"7 behind better than the pole Valtteri Bottas last year.

The leader of the Drivers' classification pushes back his Finnish teammate, who has been very energetic until then, by more than 3 tenths. As usual, the two Black Arrows entered Q3 quietly with the Medium tires best suited for the Grand Prix.

Behind, there is a new time gap which separates the Mercedes from the rest of the competition. Or when the F1 looks fiercely likeEndurance and its multiple classes and only one team in the premier category…

Verstappen hoist his Red Bull RB16 ranked 3rd in wrist strength. The Dutchman will share the 2nd row with his rival Charles Leclerc, which gives some color to Ferrari with 4th place. There Team has adopted a radically different approach to the level of aerodynamic downforce and the Monegasque, however, expects to suffer on the long stints in the race.

Lando Norris confirms his good qualities in qualifying with a very nice 5th time at the wheel of the best classified of the McLaren. Lance stroll will accompany him on the 3rd row with a Racing Point which we expected to be faster in Q3.

Carlos Sainz takes 7th place, ahead of the duo Renault, Daniel Ricciardo before Esteban Ocon. Disturbed by a litany of mechanical problems since the start of the weekend, Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) must settle for 10th time

Pierre Gasly could have progressed to Q3, the Frenchman setting exactly the same time as Stroll, 10th in Q2. The Racing Point driver who registered his mark first was the one who reached the final phase of qualifying.

The runner Alpha Tauri can console themselves by noting that he is ahead of the one who replaced him at Red Bull Racing, Alexander albon, eliminated again in Q2. After promising times in free practice for his last minute return, Nico Hulkenberg must be satisfied with the 13th time, less than a tenth of his teammate Stroll however.

Daniil Kvyat (AlphaTauri) is 14th, while George Russell once again demonstrates his driving skills on Saturday afternoon with a third appearance in Q3 in a row.

The pilot Williams is, however, the subject of an investigation by the Silverstone stewards. It could be that the Briton did not slow down sufficiently under the yellow flag at the very end of Q1. Russell was summoned to the commissioners after the session.

The difficult season for Ferrari customer teams continues with the elimination of Haas et Alfa Romeo from Q1. They are accompanied in the cart by the Williams of Nicholas latifi, who spun during his last attempt. This non-imposed figure resulted in the yellow flag which could cost his teammate Russell 3 penalty places on the grid.
