The first pole sitter in the history of the Qatar Grand Prix is named Lewis Hamilton. In good shape since Brazil, the pilot Mercedes dominated the qualifying session with a best lap of 1'20"827, making him the only one under the 1'21 mark at Losail.

Very fast since this Saturday morning after having worked a lot with his engineers on Friday evening, the Briton gave his counterparts no chance, not even Max Verstappen. The Dutchman of Red Bull tried everything during this last part of qualifying but was never able to threaten his runner-up in the championship on which he lost almost half a second in Q3 to finish in 2nd place. The Batavian will be positioned on the wrong side of the track at the start but Lewis Hamilton should keep a close eye on his rival who is capable of anything to steal the lead of the race at the first corner.

Behind the big names, Pierre Gasly stood out once again by setting the 4th fastest time in these qualifications. The Norman may, however, have some regrets since he was unable to complete his final attempt after breaking his front wing and damaging his right front tire. This mishap caused a yellow flag in the last sector which prevented many drivers from completing their last flying lap in good conditions but not Fernando Alonso.

Strongman of the stable Alpine, the Iberian showed very good things at Losail. Qualified for the second time in a row in Q2, the double world champion used his experience to climb to 3th place, just three hundredths behind Pierre Gasly, thus equaling his best result of the season obtained in Turkey last October. On the timesheet, he was ahead Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz, Yuki tsunoda, Esteban Ocon or even Sebastian Vettel. A good omen for the Grand Prix on Sunday.

Outside the Top 10, there were many surprises, particularly among the leading teams like Red Bull, Ferrari or even McLaren. In difficulty during Q2 after a first attempt on medium tires, Sergio Pérez, Charles Leclerc et Daniel Ricciardo were surprised at the end of the clock. Despite a new set of soft tires, the three men were unable to get their ticket to Q3, finishing 11th, 13th and 14th respectively.

Behind, nothing very important to note since we find the usual ones from the last rows with George Russell 15th in front of Kimi Räikkönen, Nicholas latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi, Mick Schumacher et Nikita mazepin.
