Hamilton: “Almost certain it will be a boring GP” at Imola

We can't win every time. Lewis Hamilton ceded pole position for the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to his garage colleague at Mercedes Valtteri Bottas this Saturday, October 31 for 97 thousandths.

The Briton was not really grumpy after this tiny defeat, but seemed more concerned by the lack of spectacle that the race promises. “This track is beautiful, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a boring Grand Prix, dropped the record holder for poles and victories in F1.

You can overtake on the start/finish straight but it's quite narrow and you can't really follow other cars. As soon as you pass the first braking, a series of turns ensues. There is no place to overtake. This is going to be a challenge for the drivers who follow behind. »

In a peloton where the gaps are small, the prospect of witnessing a festival of attacks is almost zero. “Between the Mercedes, we are separated by less than a tenth. But if you plan to have an opportunity to overtake, I believe the gap should be around two seconds (faster than) the car in front of you", continues the wearer of number 44.

However, Lewis Hamilton enjoys driving at Imola. « They (the circuit creators) don't make lines like that anymore nowadays. I do not know why. Imola is a classic and it has a history. »
